Spotlight on Anita

Anita’s story is one of dedication, resilience, and leadership. With over 45 years in the building and
construction industry, she has paved the way for women in a field that was once almost exclusively
male.
Her career began in the 1980s when she stepped into the industry on the Sunshine Coast. Over the
decades, Anita became known for her expertise, her tenacity, and her ability to see the bigger
picture. She was one of the first female employees at the original GJ Gardner Homes, back before
the company was franchised. She contributed to landmark projects such as over-50s lifestyle villages,
and achieved her Interior Decorating Certificate, which she still uses today to guide clients with
design choices.

The most defining step came in 2010, when Anita partnered with her son to establish J Co
Constructions. As a founding member, she was instrumental in shaping the company’s direction from day one – building the framework for the integrity, attention to detail, and craftsmanship J Co is now known for. Overseeing administration, client liaison, HR, and finance, Anita’s influence has
been central to the culture and client experience that set J Co apart.

Anita’s recognition with the Women in Building Award is a testament not only to her trailblazing role but also to the passion and care she continues to bring to her work. She has become a mentor for women entering the industry and an advocate for inclusive workplace practices, proving that her
impact extends far beyond J Co.
